City General Plan Update is a process by the City of Santa Barbara which our AIA chapter is actively involved in. Our AIA committee seeks to find a consensus within the Chapter about the future of planning goals in the City. Known variously as 2020 Vision for Santa Barbara, Blueprint for Santa Barbara, Plan Santa Barbara, You Plan Santa Barbara and others, the committee wants to influence the stated goals of the City of Santa Barbara for its Master Plan. As citizens, architects, property owners, business owners, and those interested in our community, we are uniquely situated to participate in the General Plan Update. Please contact us and participate in our next upcoming meeting.
The Government Relations Committee represents the interests of architects before federal, state, and local governments and other policy-making bodies and organizations. This outreach, coupled with sustained member participation and active involvement in the political process, enables the AIASB to advocate on legislative, regulatory, and related issues of importance to AIASB members.
The Committee on the Environment (COTE), in collaboration with The Sustainability Project (TSP), works to advance, disseminate, and advocate-to the profession, the building industry, the academy, and the public-design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment.
The Flag Committee designed the flags that will be displayed along State Street for the first time during the week of July 9th—20th, 2007. The week that the flags are flying also marks the AIA Santa Barbara Chapter's AIA150 Celebration in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the AIA in 1857.
As a fundraiser this fall, AIASB is planning a tour of architects' homes in Santa Barbara.
The Website Committee is responsible for the design and content of the AIASB website.
