Nancy Bollay and Thomas Bollay, AIA   Casa de La Torre

This recreation of a romantic 1920's Spanish Colonial Revival home, designed by Thomas Bollay, AIA, was built in 1990. The design was inspired by he and his wife's many travels throughout Spain and his studies of the old masters of the period. The house, situated on a portion of the original McCormick estate in Montecito, takes advantage of the many oak trees, a sandstone structure built in the 1880's, and the remnants of the former gardens. Casa de La Torre gracefully embodies both tradition and modernity. The home, with it's simple massing, deep-set windows, wrought iron grills and ornament, colorful tilework and graceful arches exemplifies 1920's Spanish, while the modern floor plan and kitchen/bathroom layouts reflect the way we live today. The home opens to private gardens with french doors and large studio windows, embracing its environs.
