Susan Van Atta, ASLA and Ken Radtkey, AIA   Coyote House

Currently nearing completion, the Coyote House represents a new approach to sustainable design. Instead of incorporating a checklist of sustainable techniques, the project strives to establish a healthy relationship between nature and people. To accomplish this goal, the home is tuned to natural material and energy flows. For example, cisterns, green roofs, grey-water recycling and innovative landscape techniques help gather and re-purpose on-site water. And due to fire-resistant materials, the home survived the 2008 Tea Fire.

This four-bedroom home establishes an elegant identity that is both environmentally friendly and forward thinking. The Coyote House will serve as a demonstration of "what's possible" in green design (The project is currently pursuing Platinum-level LEED Certification).

Date Completed: July 2009 Project Size: 2460 square feet of conditioned space
